Queen of Sound-Alikes
For 16 years, long
before
"Stars in Your Eyes", Karen has worked professionally as a session
singer recording
sound-alikes of all the great divas. She has been called "Queen of sound-alikes"
by highly respected journalists, including those from The Guardian, as
well as many
"top of the bill" artists: Jim Davidson, Jethro, Lenny Henry, Bradley Walsh,
Freddie Starr and Joe Pasquale, to name but a few! There is no other female
singer who comes close; her
range is five octaves, enabling her to mimic the likes of Mariah Carey, Minnie
Ripperton and
Sarah Brightman.
Accomplished Musician
aren is also an accomplished
musician and has her own tribute to keyboard and guitar shows including artists such as Carole King, Barbara
Dickson, Beverly Craven, Joan Baez, Shania Twain, Vonda Shepard, Sheryl Crow and Eva Cassidy.
And there's no cheating: Karen really does play guitar and piano!
She is hailed as the best
vocalist and impersonator in the business. Highlights include her show-length repertoires of
Barbra Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Eva Cassidy, Petula Clark,
Karen Carpenter and Anastacia. Karen has made many live television appearances as Dusty, as
well as herself.
As a session singer she is in the minority in that she can sight-read music and is therefore
quick and easy to work with. Karen's language skills are excellent too and she can be
strongly colloquial when required. French, German, Italian
you name it.
Far-Ranging Live Shows
Karen's live shows are
far-ranging. "Dusty" recently put on shows in Blackpool, which were followed by
a huge 50-date tour all over the country.
Her Eva Cassidy tribute shows are legendary: These are Karen's own personal tribute to the
late great guitar vocalist, who, sadly, died of cancer at the age of 33.
And then there's "Divas Las Vegas " - Karen's frighteningly accurate portrayals of all the mega-star divas
Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion...and more.
"Streisand - The Story in Music" charts
the progress of Barbra Streisand's long and successful career through a stunning
performance by Karen, her live band, projection visuals and a narration.
There has also been much
acclaim for her "I'll be seeing you
" shows. As the new forces' sweetheart,
Karen has entertained our British troops tirelessly for 17 years. It's a great tribute to
war-time music, spanning the Vera Lynn era, and up to the Falklands conflict--a fabulous
show featuring Karen with her guest star Johnny Casson.
Because of Karen's classical background, her versatility is immense. Her own repertoire
includes jazz standards to 21st Century current hits, all arranged to perfection. This is
why she is so popular. As already mentioned, Karen is a huge hit with the British forces,
starring with her own band in Bosnia, Belize, the Falklands, Ireland, Kosovo and Sierra
Leone.
Karen will also
does session work (check out all the sound-alike compilations
at the Early Learning Centres), and then there are all the corporate functions,
lunchtimes and evenings -- she is an ideal choice for these with her affable
and professional nature and of course, her vast talent.
Television Appearances
She has recently
starred in
several television shows: "Jim Davidson Presents", "Open House" and
"The Kelly Show". There was also a memorable appearance starring as
Dusty at The London Palladium which drew huge accolades for Karen. She has starred
as Dusty for the past
seven years and every single show has received a standing ovation. Now the
likes of Jethro, Jim Davidson, Freddie Starr and Bradley Walsh are all clamouring
for Karen to be on the bill
with them!
Having studied drama at college and performing in many plays, Karen is also an accomplished
actress and recently appeared in comedy sketches with Jethro.
